Scholarships at ブライトン大学

Our sports scholarship scheme is designed to help student develop their full sporting potential to train and complete at the highest level.

We have two different types of sports scholarships.

Elite athletes / Elite disabled athletes scholarships

These sports scholarships are for students who have reached a national level of competition or performance and have the potential and dedication to reach world-class performance level.

Talented sports performers scholarship

These are for students who have represented their sport at national or regional level or who are able to demonstrate that they have the potential to compete at these levels.

Elite athletes / elite disabled athletes:

• Free access to the university sport facilities

• Financial support (up to £1000 for the academic year)

• Performance T-shirt

• Access to workshops (nutrition, fitness training, technique analysis and sports psychology)

• Strength and Conditioning support

• Sport Science support

• Physical Performance testing

• Reduced rate access to physiotherapy support

• Reduced rate access to sport massage treatments

• A mentor to help with lifestyle management

• Access to University of Brighton sports coaches (where available)

• Links to external clubs through our extensive partnership network

Who is eligible to apply?

• You should have reached a junior or senior national level of competition or performance and have the potential and dedication to reach world-class performance level (or equivalent) in your sport.

• You should have been accepted on a University of Brighton course or be a current student of the university, or a directly funded course at a partner college.

About these scholarships

The Forward Bound scholarship is available to Health Promotion MSc applicants from low or lower-middle income countries where similar postgraduate education opportunities are not available. It is intended to support health and other professionals who are employed or who volunteer in roles where they will be able to influence health promotion practice and policy on their return.

The scholarship will fund course fees, travel costs, accommodation, visa, subsistence and health insurance for 12 months – equivalent to a cost of £25,000.

There is one scholarship fund of £25,000 in 2023–24. This is a highly competitive scholarship, by invitation by the Course Leader.

Invitation to apply for the scholarship is given to applicants as follows:

• Applicants who have a directly relevant degree (eg public health, nutrition, sport science, health sciences) relevant professional or voluntary experience, a strong personal statement and vision of how the Health Promotion MSc can enhance their future work for their country community.

• Candidates with indirectly relevant degrees (eg psychology, social sciences, behavioural sciences) are also considered based on their professional or voluntary experience and strong personal statement as above.

• Candidates with non-relevant degrees (eg biosciences, business, lab technology) are only considered if they have extensive experience and a strong personal statement explaining their engagement in the health promotion and vision as above.

• Applicants who already hold a degree which is considered equivalent to a masters degree from the UK are unlikely to qualify for a Student Visa and are not normally invited to apply.

Please note that the Forward Bound Scholarship Award Committee's decision is final.

Who is eligible?

The Forward Bound scholarship is for applicants from low-income countries, and lower-middle income countries where similar postgraduate education opportunities in health promotion/public health are not available. (Currently, this excludes applicants from Gambia, Ghana and Nigeria).

To be eligible for the Forward Bound scholarship award, you need to have been offered a place on the Health Promotion MSc course and be living and/or working in a low income or low-middle income country as defined by the World Bank.

Applicants would normally be working in a professional capacity in health promotion or a public health role. In exceptional cases, applicants whose influence is through non-paid roles – for example, through voluntary agencies or through other health related work – may also be considered.

Please note that applicants who have previously had an opportunity to study in the UK (or other higher income country included in the terms and conditions) are not eligible to apply.

About these scholarships

Scholarships worth 20% of tuition fees will be awarded to students who already hold a University of Brighton academic award and who wish to study at postgraduate level at the university.

The scholarship is open to any alumni, studying full-time or part-time for a postgraduate award, except those on apprenticeship programmes or integrated masters and paying regulated fees.

Who is eligible

This scholarship is available to University of Brighton academic award holders* who wish to study at postgraduate level at the university. The value of this scholarship is equivalent to a 20% reduction to tuition fees.

This scholarship is for students commencing their studies in the 2023–24 academic year.

Both full-time and part-time students are eligible for this scholarship.

The scholarship applies to postgraduate level study including Postgraduate Taught (PGT) courses and Postgraduate Research (PGR) including:

• Masters (MSc, MA, MBA, MPA, LLM)

• Masters of research (MRes)

• PGDip

• PGCert

• MPhil

• PhD

• Professional doctorate

Exclusions

Students paying regulated fees (e.g. the equivalent of £9,250 for full-time study, such as PGCE, MEng, MArch and MPharm) for postgraduate courses are not eligible for this scholarship.

Students studying individual or free-standing modules that are not being taken towards an overarching academic award are not eligible for this scholarship.

This scholarship cannot be applied in combination with any other scholarship or discount.

Students who have any outstanding debt owed to the university will not be eligible for the scholarship. The university reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship if a student becomes indebted to the university whilst on the course for which they received the scholarship.

The university reserves the right to discontinue the offer of this scholarship. In such circumstances students will continue to receive the scholarship (subject to eligibility), until they have completed or withdrawn from their current course programme of study.

About these scholarships

Scholarships will be awarded at £3,500, £2,500 and £1,000 levels and those applications we assess as best meeting the criteria will be awarded the higher amount. These scholarships are awarded as a reduction in tuition fees for the first year of study.

Who is eligible

To be eligible to apply you must:

• be a new, international fee-status student.

• be holding an offer for a full-time postgraduate taught degree with a minimum course duration of one year.

• be starting your course in September 2023.

You will not be eligible if:

• your course is a PGCert, PGDip or PhD.

• You are an applicant for BSMS.

• you are a student at UBIC or any other University of Brighton partner college or affiliate institution.

• you are receiving sponsorship from your government.

• you are an existing student unless starting a new postgraduate programme.

• you applied for an International Scholarship in a previous round.

How decisions are made

International scholarships will be awarded based on your answer to the following questions:

• What are your career ambitions.

• Why have you chosen this career path.

• In what way do you expect your university degree to support your future career plans.

• Decisions about scholarship awards will be made by an awards committee and are final.

• Applications that are not fully completed will not be reviewed by the panel.

• Only one scholarship application per student will be considered for September 2023 entry.
