As a Durham graduate would you like a scholarship for further study at Durham?

Are you considering options for further study, retraining, and career advancement? We can help.

We are keen to support you in realising this through the Durham University Alumni Fee Scholarship. This Scholarship will contribute part of the cost of tuition fees.

Eligibility

As long as you hold a Bachelor's or higher degree from Durham University and apply for a course that begins within the 2025-26, you are automatically eligible for this Scholarship - you do not need to apply separately.

Those holding CHE/DHE or postgraduate/CPD credits only will unfortunately not be eligible to receive the Scholarship.

Your must be self-funding (or majority self-funding) in order to receive this scholarship.  The value of the contribution to your fees must exceed the value of this proposed scholarship.  For example: if your fee is £10,000 and you have a 10% Alumni Fee Discount you must intend to make a personal contribution of £1,001 in order to receive the scholarship, excluding any other third-party support of fee sponsorship.  Any repayable loans used towards fees would count as self-funding.

Those who have outstanding financial debt to the University will not be eligible until the debt has been cleared.

For the purposes of both schemes, alumni are defined as those who have been awarded a degree qualification by Durham University, and who studied at Durham University (i.e. not a degree conferred by the University for study at another institution, for example Common Awards at another institution). A student in receipt of government loans for study is considered self-funding. The scheme do not apply to students who are not majority self-funding.

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) scholarships are available thanks to a partnership with the China Scholarships Council. The scholarships are open to applicants from Mainland China wishing to study for a PhD at Durham. Details of the eligibility criteria along with information specific to applicants applying for this joint scheme are included below for information.

Eligibility

Applicant must:

• Be citizens and permanent residents of the People's Republic of China at the time of application. Chinese students studying overseas may also be eligible for application subject to CSC policies.

• Hold either an unconditional offer for a full-time PhD programme at Durham, or a conditional.

  offer with the only condition being “receiving final degrees” (not language). 

• Satisfy entry required as outlined by the CSC at the time of application.

• Successful candidates are required to return home upon completion of their studies.

Please note:

• Students who have already commenced their doctoral degree at Durham are not eligible.

• These scholarships cannot be held on a part-time basis.

We are delighted to be offering a range of new International Scholarships to students from Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Vietnam, looking to start their undergraduate or taught postgraduate studies in 2025/26.

Eligibility

Applicants must be domiciled and have nationality of one of the following countries:

• Bangladesh

• India

• Malaysia

• Nigeria

• Pakistan

• Vietnam

Applicants must be completely self-funding and international fee payers only in order to be eligible for this tuition fee discount. Where fees are paid by an employer, private provider, government body or you are in receipt of another Durham University scholarship (e.g. Team Durham), applicants will not be considered for a scholarship. Failure to disclose external funding will invalidate any scholarship offering. Please note, this does not include the Postgraduate Master’s Loan.

Applicants must be willing to participate and cooperate in marketing and communications activities (Scholarship Commitments) for their Faculty/Durham University. This may include testimonials and public relations opportunities, as well as being involved in and attending Open Events, Webinars or being a class representative.

Scholars who withdraw from their Scholarship Commitments or from the University will have all future scholarship discounts cancelled.

Scholars who suspend their Scholarship Commitments or academic studies will have all future scholarship discounts cancelled. Please note that only under exceptional circumstances e.g. medical reasons, and at the sole discretion of the Faculty Executive Dean, approval may be given for discounts to recommence after suspended studies continue.

Eligibility 

Based on the eligibility criteria below, these scholarships will be awarded to Full-time MBA offer holders who: 

• can demonstrate they bring outstanding experience; this will include a significant amount of postgraduate work experience in roles demonstrating a high level of managerial responsibility 

• have an impressive academic record – candidates with only the minimum of years’ work experience required must include extra-curricular activities in their application 

• have the potential to contribute to and enrich all aspects of the MBA programme, including the diverse academic and cultural profile of the MBA cohort 

• can demonstrate involvement in volunteering and/or community support activity 

• complete the admissions interview to high standard.

To be considered for one of the Durham University Business School Full-time MBA Scholarships (tuition fee discounts) applicants must: 

• Be completely self-funding to be eligible for this tuition fee discount. Where fees are paid by an employer, private provider or government body, applicants will not be considered for a scholarship. Failure to disclose external funding will invalidate any scholarship offering. 

• Complete the appropriate programme application process in full (including interview) and be in in receipt of a conditional off before Friday 1st August 2025. Applications received after this date may not be considered for an award.  

• Be available to take up their programme place on the October 2025 MBA cohort. 

• Be willing to participate and cooperate in marketing and communications activities for the School. This may include testimonials and public relations opportunities, as well as being involved in and attending Open Events, Webinars or being a class representative. 

• Be willing to become an outstanding future alumni ambassador and contribute positively back to the School, organisations and communities.
