ロンドンカレッジ オブ ファッションの歴史
大学には長い歴史がありますが、ここでは短く説明させて頂きます。ロンドンカレッジ オブ ファッションは今年で創立100年です。ですが、来校者は学校、研究施設等を御覧になり、大学がそんなに古くからあるとは感じないことでしょう。大学では、未来を目指し、ファッション業界への新たな取り組み方を常に模索し、また将来のファッションデザイナー、衣服の技術者、化粧品の研究者等に対して、有益な新たな技術習得を目指しています。大学では過去に感謝し、未来へ向かって動いています。
1906年に遡り、ショアデッチ技術女学校（後の聖バレットカラパアン貿易学校）が開設された時、大学の前身は若い少女をドレスの仕立て、婦人帽子作り、刺繍、そして理髪の技術等習得できるよう訓練しました。しかし、それはただの花嫁学校ではありませんでした。大学の前身は、ファッション業界で必要とされる技術を確立するという、将来に対する千見の明を持っていました。例えば、学期は3月に終わり、このタイミングはロンドンで舞踏会、パーティ、社会的なイベントが多く開催される時期で、卒業生達は就労準備に向け無駄なく進んでいくことができたのです。1930年代に（戦時中に）大学では、ファッション業界が重要になっていくことを見越し、生徒に必要な訓練を行いました。この、ファッション教育に対する積極的なアプローチは、今日のファッション教育の先駆者としての大学を創りあげました。そして、それが大学が独特な理由でもあります。そして、果敢に取り組んでいくとう大学の姿勢を創っています。もしも、試してみなければ、大学はよりよい立地場所を獲得できていなかったでしょう。Bond St, Savile Row, Soho and Great Portland Stはロンドンの衣料地区です。過去100年間、大学では様々なことを学んできました。そして他の追従を許しませんでした。大学の卒業生と、業界の連盟は重要な教育資源であり、育て、保護すべきものでもあります。ゲストで講義を行ってくれる人々、インターシップ、研究プロジェクトに参加することは、大学の活性化につながり、また生徒がビジネスの現場を学べる機会を提供しています。
